Low carb, no fat, no taste, low calorie diets – not working for you? The secret to losing weight is
calorie balance. I hate to break it to you but cutting out carbs is not the reason you lose weight on a no carb diet. It is the fact that you cut out calories.
The majority of us tend to overeat the foods we like the best; the ones that are tasty and provide us with comfort. Breads, pasta, sweets to name the top offenders. If we actually ate the appropriate serving size, we would not be in this obesity mess. But think about the endless bread basket at the Olive Garden. Deep dish, thick crust pizza. The endless pasta bowls and the larger than life portions of pasta we are served at restaurants. Desserts that could feed a small country.
Come on – do you really expect me to believe that science is wrong and that the main source of fuel for our body is the culprit in your growing waistline?! Don’t you think its time we are held accountable for the ridiculous amounts of these yummy foods we are consuming??
The bottom line is calories in, calories out. If you want to lose weight, you need to consume less calories than you use. HOWEVER, this doesn’t mean extreme calorie restriction. You will put yourself into a place I call “storage mode”. If you cut your calories too extreme you will find that you may actually gain weight because your body goes into a starvation mode and stores food as fat as if we are in a famine and need to survive.
Track what you eat honestly on a site like livestrong/myplate. You can easily cut back on calories by only putting one serving of the food you are eating on your plate and immediately refrigerating the rest so you don’t overeat.
