National Running Day

Today is national running day! Even if you are not a runneryou can celebrate your commitment to fitness and improving or maintaining your good health.

If you are a runner, you may want to visit http://www.runningday.org/site/ and tell them why you run. It could be for your sanity or it could be for a charity. If you are not a runner you may want to read some of the testimonials for inspiration to get yourself moving. Or you may be looking to start a running program and may find some helpful information.

If you are not able to run due to injury, limitations, etc. do not despair. You can walk, bike or dance your way to a healthier you. JUST KEEP MOVING.

By the Way, if you are prone to shin splints, unfortunately you may have to work through them. But my first suggestion is getting yourself fit for the right sneaker by a professional. Here in CT we’ve got Fleet Feet and I cannot say enough about them. Once you know what sneakers are right for you, you should suffer less.  Keep in mind that your heal strike plays a role in shin splints so be sure to have the person fitting you video tape you running/walking on the treadmill so you can see if you have a hard strike.

Be Well.
