Longer doesn’t equal Better

Think you have to spend hours at the gym to get results? It isn’t the amount of time you spend on your workout that matters as much as what you do during your workout that matters.

Long duration cardio workouts like walking on the treadmill for an hour may work best for some people and I say do what you need to do. However, it is easy to plateau and for some of us, we just don’t have that kind of time.

Try a cardio circuit workout instead. Start with the workout to rest ratio of 30 seconds of work to 30 seconds of rest. As you build stamina you can decrease the rest in between the work.

Example:

30 seconds Jumping Jacks, 30 seconds of rest

30 seconds Squat Jumps, 30 seconds of rest

30 seconds push ups, 30 seconds of rest

30 seconds high knee jogs, 30 seconds of rest

30 seconds jump rope, 30 seconds rest (simulate rope if you don’t have one)

30 seconds mountain climbers, 30 seconds rest

REPEAT circuit as many times as you can depending on how much time you have to workout.

Next Blog will talk about the importance and benefit of intensity. Stay tuned!

Live Well.
